desktop not filling new HDMI screen 1920*1080 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a new Dell PC with an on board ATI Radeon HD 4200 chipset. We also have a new BenQ 2200V monitor 1920 x1080

Using the HDMI cable I can't get the desktop to size properly - there's always a big black border.

Using a VGA cable gives us a full sized desktop, but....but the graphics often freezes after the PC has gone to sleep, and although the PC seems to be working fine in the background (we can login OK) the graphics remains blank and nothing but a hard reboot will sort it out.

    So I'm stuck either way.

i have tried downloading the latest ATI drivers, and that has done nothing (except the ATI Catalyst Control Centre now won't work at all though the drivers do seem to be the latest versions now).

    Suggestions please?

  • This is not something caused by Windows 7.  I have Windows 7 on 3 computers with ATI HD 5750 cards and they all fill the screen properly via HDMI, even on my HDTV.  Either your Dell PC or your monitor has a fault.  Contact the appropriate Technical Support.
