  • Question

  • Hi

Will DPM 2012 allow for Exchange Restores to RSG from expired an tape, currently DPM 2007/2010 dows not, see:

    http://scdpm.blogspot.com.au/2010/06/recatalog-expired-tape.html states:
When you use this option to restore a Exchange mailbox; On the restore tab you will be unable to drive down to mailbox level. It is also not possible to restore to the Recovery Store Group (RSG).

  • Hi,

Generally speaking, DPM does not allow a restore of application backup data back to original location from an imported tape.  Your only options are to restore as flat files to a volume or network share.  So with that said, you could restore the exchange files to a share on the exchanage server and manually mount the restored database on the exchange server.

  • Thanks for your reply Mike.

To restore to the network share and then mount the store manually in a DR situation is probably OK, but when you just need to restore emails from an ex-employees mailbox, this is a real pain and the only way is to really use a 3rd party utility. This is a pain point that I'm sure others have as well.

Perhaps the DPM/Exchange team can look at this for future releases?
