Integration with Cisco Call Manager ver 7.2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am using OCS 2007 R2 and it can make calls thru the pc currently from OCS.  It cannot call from Outlook 2010 - says this feature is disabled.  I am trying to make it so it is calling via the phone system versus the computer.  Also to enable calling thru Outlook.

Does anyone have any information on how to do this?

  • You either have two ways to enable integration between a Cisco and Microsoft environment (also depending on your release versions on the Cisco side)

    • Buy, install and use the Cisco CUPS server (Cisco Unified Presence Server) and integrate it with your OCS environment. This will allow Click-To-Call features in Communicator, meaning that Communicator is no real "softphone" but is linked to your phone and can trigger a call on the Cisco Phone from within Outlook.
    • Purchase CUCIMOC (Cisco UC Integration for Microsoft Office Communicator), which is a plugin for Office Communicator. In fact this is a Cisco Softphone integraded into Communicator

I'm also pretty sure that Cisco has some free Click-To-Call tools that integrate with Outlook, but you should check with the partner or department that maintains the Cisco environment.

I have to say that I installed and tried the above 3 solutions, but it doesn't match the ease and useability of an enterprise voice enabled OCS system. It's still better than nothing though!

  • So you actually are trying to click to call from Outlook 2010 and have it dial out using communicator correct? Or are you trying to make it call via your cisco phone from Outlook?

If the second option you will need to investigate some different options like outlined below.

If the first option, can you post any specific errors, you said it says the feature is disabled...

Is it actually opening the communicator window to make the call and then failing?

    Let me know.

  • I do have the cisco plug-in for OCS, but seems as if you have to drag and drop the call.  When I click it calls thru OCS on my computer for some reason.

When I go thru outlook to call it just says that this feature is not enabled.

You can indeed drag and drop with CUCIMOC.

If outlook says the feature is not enabled, than it looks like you should talk to your Cisco representatives if this isn't normal behaviour for the Cisco Client integration

  • I enabled enterprise voice, but now it tries to make the call but receive the error call failed.  I configured mediation server, etc.  Looking at the log on the mediation server, it is showing the Cisco Call Manager receives the call but for some reason is not allowing it in.

I do have CUPS, is this the best way to make calls via communicator thru your ocs?  If it works better with OCS let me know.  I am not sure I really like this drag and drop method.   Also, what free plug ins are available?

  • Also, when I just dial thru OCS, it works but calls thru the pc.  We want it all to go thru the phone system.  We all have soft phones and regular one's from Cisco.

The call does fail when going thru outlook though.
