Hyper-V & Symantec Backup Exec - VHD Mount RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been getting errors on with the Hyper-V agent on Backup Exec.... Symantec support tell me that I need to install the VHD Mount component from Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 SP1  http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2994

I'm running Windows 2008 Server Enterprise R2 and when I run the 64bit Setup.exe from the above link I get the error: This Program is blocked due to compatibility issues. This program isn't compatible with your version of windows.

    What do you reckon>?

  • was my mistake I was trying to install the VHD mount on the remote servers being backed up, but didn't do so on the actual media server that was doing the backups. This media server is running windows 2003.

    Case dismissed! :-)

    thanks for your time guys

  • The link below says that component is not required for Windows Server 2008 R2 since it comes with native support to mount VHD files.

I would contact Symantec support again and make sure they understand you are using Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • you dont need to install any virtual server components on win2k8 r2 when using backup exec hyper-v agent (using be 2010 R2/R3 here)

what error do you get, and out of curiosity, do you have mounted vhd's inside the vm

  • i thought that too about 2008 R2 already having the component, however the backup exec chappy seems so think my install relates to " Windows 2008 32-bit and 64-bit Media server that DO NOT support hardware-assisted virtualization (Intel VT or AMD-V) technology:

Install VHD mounter component from the Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 Sp1 installation.  See related documents section."

I don't think it does relate???

here's the error i'm experiencing in backup exec where its relating to the VHD mount for each Hyper-VM:

I've installed the VHD component on 1 of the VM's which is running Windows 2003 server but still the VM never backed up as you can see below in server names cairnserve6. i'm just going to call back symantec also as it seems the issue isn't related to the Microsoft component
