Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager 80070490 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've received this error in Server Manager after a failed removal of IIS.  I've tried resolving this issue by looking in the CBS log and found the following entry:

Failed to resolve Package: Package_for_KB958687_server_0~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.2. hr: 0x80070490

So I downloaded the Windows6.0-KB958687-x64.msu package which did not install.  The installation stated that the update didn't apply to my system.  I then installed the Windows6.0-KB947821-v4-x64.msu package that produced the following log:

    Hi Scott,

This issue can occur if the file “Package_for_KB958687_server_0~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.2.mum” is missing.

Please copy this file to c:\windows\servicing\packages from another Windows Server 2008 x64 or Windows Vista x64 computer directly.

If the error persists, as this issue is related to the failed removal of IIS, I suggest further discussing it in our IIS newsgroup.

I hope your issue can be resolved soon.

  • Hi Tim,

sorry for raising this closed thread, but i'm also having a similar issue. The problem is, i do not have access to any other windows 2008 x64 bit servers, to grab these files. Is there any other way i can get those files?

Server is windows 2008 standard editon with sp1. Intel Xeon (2 proc) 2.6GHz x64 bit.
Here's my error log from CheckSUR.persist.log

    Hi,

You can download these 3 files from the following sites:

  • Sigh. i don't have permission to dump those three files in that folder. I'm admin AND i tried doing it from the command line, after running the command line as Admin.

checking the Packages folder, admin + user cannot mod the content, only a TrustedInstaller user could.

Any suggestions? (I even tried changing the perms of the folder, but it's not allowing me).

  • hmm. S'Ok. i stumbled across this thread which hinted about how we can fix the permission issues.

So i've now copied the files across to the folder .. and now what?

I've ran SUR again and those 3 files are still isted as missing.

Do not, i've copied across 3 .mum files .. even though the SUR is saying i need 3 .cat filkes ... so is this right/wrong?

    Tim,

Could you post a URL to download these files again including both the CAT and MUM files, or post them in a more permanent location?  I tried to extract them from the KB file but the versions don't match - the KB file I downloaded has package files with version 6.0.1.4, not 6.0.1.3.  Looks like you are the best hope for us to get access to the files Windows is looking for.  Thanks much for your help!
