Backup on tape failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I deploy DPM 2012 with tapes.

When I try to backup on tapes, I receive an error message telling me that I have no access rights.

    Is that possible ?

Could you tell me how to backup on tapes ?

    Thank you for your answers.

  • HI,

If the library drives are IBM LTO drives, this is caused by a known issue in the IBM tape drivers. Please use the Microsoft in-box ltotape.sys drivers on the tape drive.

    1) Open device manager
    2) Locate the tape drive
    3) Right-click and look at the properties.
    4) Under the DRIVER tab, select UPDATE DRIVER
       a) Select the Install from list or specific location (Advanvced) - next.
       b) Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install. - next.
       c) Uncheck the Show comtabile hardware checkbox.
       d) Highlight LTO under the manufacturer.
       e) Highlight the LTO tape drive under model - then next.
       f) This should install the Microsoft ltotape.sys driver.
    5) Rescan the tape library in the DPM console, if a duplicate tape drive appears, then run the following utility.

C:\program files\Microsoft dpm\dpm\bin\DPMDriveMappingTool.exe to remap the tape drive and remove the duplicate.

  • I had this issue with an IBM TS3200

If your have the same IBM unit make sure you run the right executable to install the driver as per the readme.txt file:

    __________________________

    install_exclusive.exe:

install_exclusive.exe should be used by applications (such as Tivoli Storage Manager)
requiring the driver to issue automatic reserves on open and also preventing multiple
open handles from a host to a drive to exist at the same time.

Note: This option replaces the previous default installation of install.exe

    install_nonexclusive.exe:

install_nonexclusive.exe should be used by applications (such as Microsoft Data
Protection Manager or Microsoft Removable Storage Manager) permitting multiple open
handles from a host to a drive to exist at the same time.

Note: This option replaces the previous command line installation of install.exe -n

  • Thanks all but now there is an other problem :(

I can't backup on tapes cause of an idle status for the library

Someone could explain me why ?

I deployed the IBM drivers and the LTO Tape drive as Mike said before.

    Thanks.

    Cheers,

  • Hi,

Idle  status is normal when the tape drive is not being used for a backup.  When you try to perform a tape backup, what happens ?
