OCS conversations visible to other users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Not sure if this is wholly SharePoint related or not but here it goes anyway. 2000+ user base with SharePoint 2007, OCS, Outlook 2007, Exchange Server ???. We've recently discovered a strange and random error with OCS presence on SharePoint. User A hovers over (mouseover event) user B's presence "jellybean" on user B's mysite page or in their colleague web part and is shown a tooltip that instead of displaying the user's email address as usual, contains a block of text. This text is the last sent conversation text of user B. It may or may not have been addressed to user A. From a confidentiality standpoint this isn't really acceptable to the users. Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Is it a known bug or a configuration problem?

  • Hello,

    This situation seems very unique.  Upon researching this issue, I have been unable to find anything directly related to the issue you are experiending.  However, I did do a bit of testing on my own.
    I created a few MyStes for testing and reviewed the HTML code behind the page.  In particular, the following line of code dictates what is displayed in the tooltip of the of the user's profile picture:
    <img id="ctl00_PlaceHolderLeftNavBarTop_PictureUrlImage" src="/_layouts/images/no_pic.gif" alt="User Photo" style="border-width:0px;" />
    I recommend checking the HTML source code for your MySites pages.  It is possible that the integration of OCS or some third party software you are using has modified the "alt= …" section of this code.
