Allow virtual applications full write permissions - shared content RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey

I have an legacy application that requires write access to "C:\Program Files (x86)\MyApp\Setup.ini"

Does "VFS Write Mode" AKA "Allow virtual applications full write permissions to the virtual file system" work when using "shared content store mode"?

I'm unable to make it work :(

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

  • It should. Shared content store mode has nothing do to with it.
As soon as you enable VFS write for your packages, delta changes made to the VFS will be written into the users profile, so not the actual setup.ini will be modified, but a copy of it.
You state it does not work... did you check with procmon it's actually the write action which fails?

Try to resequence your application, and this time set PVAD as "C:\Program Files (x86)\MyApp"

  • Hey

Did try using PVAD... same result.

If I disable share content it works?

Running on Windows Server 2016 RDS.

  • You would definitely need to have the setup.ini inside the VFS in order for VFS write mode to matter.
