Word 2010 keeps opening in the wrong monitor RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two graphics cards and three monitors.

One day, about a week ago, I must have moved a document to the left monitor and closed it.

Now most word documents I open, open in the left monitor.  Some will still open in the center.  I haven't figured out the criteria for how it decides.

Even if I move all documents to the center monitor and close every one and exit word, it still remembers the left monitor.

How can I make it forget?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

Please check whether the connection of the left monitor is still connected.

  • The monitor is connected and working fine.

I am asking how to force word to open in the center monitor.  I don't want any documents opened in the left monitor.

  • Hi,

Try to Change Primary Monitor to check the issue:

The following steps is for Windows XP:

    1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to designate as the primary monitor.
    2. Click to select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box. Note that this check box is unavailable when you select the monitor icon that is currently set as your primary monitor.

  • I am using Windows 7 so those instructions do not apply.

When I go into CONTROL PANEL > APPEARANCE AND PERSONALIZATION > DISPLAY > SCREEN RESOLUTION the center monitor is already identified by the phrase "THIS IS CURRENTLY YOUR MAIN DISPLAY".

Here is my problem.  During the day, when I'm working, I use all three monitors.  Then after 5pm, I want to turn off the left monitor.  I don't want to go through all the trouble of removing it from my displays in windows.  If I can re-train Microsoft Word 2010 to open in the center monitor, this plan would work.  All other programs remember where they are closed and reopen in the same place.  Only Microsoft Word opens where it wants to.  Is there a registry key perhaps?
