To the best of my knowledge, MOSS 2007 does not support RBS, so the first option is not going to be possible. Either of the other two options are possible, as long as your environment is patched at least to MOSS 2007 Service Pack 1.

There are also some third party providers from SharePoint software vendors such as Quest, AvePoint, and Metalogix that provide BLOB storage options for SharePoint 2007, you may want to take a look at them as well to see if they might meet your needs.

  • Thanks for that - am I right in thinking that EBS = local Filestream provider, RBS = remote Filestream provider?

    Cheers

They are remote adn are designed to allow you to get items out of SQL Server Content databases.  EBS is really only valid for SharePoint 2007.  RBS is applicable only for SharePoint 2010 (NB to Mike: Mentioned for clarity only, please don't delete as off-topic).

Jersey Bob has an old but good post on the old BlueThread StoragePoint Blog that explains both technologies pretty well.  Check it out here http://blog.storagepoint.com/post/2011/01/13/SharePoint-Remote-BLOB-Storage-for-Non-Experts.aspx

  • Thanks for the link - one further question if I may - So are local filestream (where the FILESTREAM file group is created directly in the database that is being RBS enabled) and remote filestream (the FILESTREAM file group can be created in a database that is NOT the content database being RBS enabled ) both flavours of RBS?

    Cheers
