Power BI Desktop & Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am having trouble getting refresh to work.

What I have setup is follows.

I have an access databases with a load of queries that are updated daily.

I used Power BI desktop to connect to the Access db to pull in all the queries. The Access db is in SharePoint online.
I have the PowerBIGateway installed on a production pc. I then added the .PBIX from Power BI Desktop into the PowerBI portal and setup a scheduled refresh . It looks like the scheduled refresh is working but the data does not refresh.

Is what I am trying to do possible ? I just want some PowerBI reports based on Access SQL queries (local tables) to be updated daily.

    Appreciate your thoughts

  • Yes, it should be possible:

That being said, it seems like EVERYONE is having issues with Power BI Refresh, myself included.

  • Its definitely not working. As a test I just tried scheduled refresh with a sharepoint list and it worked .. so I guess I could publish the reports to SharePoint lists from Access if I can't get Access via PowerBI desktop to work.

  • That's nifty, that's the one I'm having trouble with, SharePoint Online lists refreshed automatically...

  • After more testing this clearly doesn't work, that is scheduled refresh using PowerBI Desktop to connect to queries is an access database hosted on SharePoint.

The scheduled refresh looks like it is  working on the Gateway production pc, so  I guess will have to think of another way like SharePoint lists which do refresh.

  • Interestingly, when you publish the pbix directly from Power BI it says that scheduled refresh is not supported.

If you add the pbix using "Get data" from the PowerBI portal it allows you to set a refresh schedule that doesn't work !

You cannot schedule refresh for this dataset because it gets data from sources that currently don’t support refresh. Learn More about data sources that currently support refresh.
