Microsoft Forefront client security failed to detect virus embeded in email. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to configure Forefront client security to detect virus embedded in email on the fly (or real-time protection)? Our company started to use Forefront client security this year. But we found virus penetrated into user's PCs by email and Forefront failed to give the user any warnings until a full system scan uncovered the viruses later. We are not using Microsoft Exchange for our mail server.  Our users are using Eudora or Thunderbird for mail client.

  • Hi Easyway,

    Thank you for your post.

By default, FCS will not scan email. You could enable the email scanning feature (scan email archives during full scans) refer to Scanning email archives article.
Generally, it is recommended to run email anti-malware software (like Forefront for Exchange) on email server end instead of client end.
