How to prevent Sharepoint Designer from automatically converting backslashes in URLs to forward slashes? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I load an existing .ASP file (not ASP.Net, just VBScript), Sharepoint Designer's editor converts the backslashes in URLs to forward slashes. For example: "\Apps\Images\xyz.bmp" becomes "Apps/Images/xyz.bmp".

So that when I move the .ASP file to our IIS server, it no longer works.

    How do I prevent this?

Also, whenever I save a file in Sharepoint Designer, it inserts the following characters at the start of the (text) .ASP file:

    ϊ»¿<!

The page seems to load fine, though, in IIS -- the special characters seem to be ignored by IIS.

    Thanks a lot!

  • In my experience, SharePoint Designer is only useful when working on real SharePoint pages.  In other all cases, I've found it to be overkill.  It's also very touchy and requires a great deal of care and patience.

Since you're just working with ASP pages, I'd recommend using another tool altogether.  Notepad++ comes to mind...
