SQL 2008 management console - requires elevated credentials? (server 2008) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're migrating to Server and SQL 2008 and have found that the SQL Management Studio won't let our domain admin accounts login unless the Management Studio is opened with "Run as Administrator". Disabling UAC also has the same effect.
Can someone confirm this is the intended operation in Windows Server 2008 for using the SQL 2008 Management Studio?

The strange thing is that one of the Windows/SQL 2008 servers doesn't have this issue.

**addtional note - After adding a regular user group login to the SQL sysadmin role, Management Studio connects to it's instance fine. The issue appears to be that users in the Domain Admins group can't login unless they elevate the Management Studio to open it.

  • Hello,

Could anyone offer some advice on whether or not they have experienced this? Or can confirm?

    Thank you much,
