How to setup 2 Windows XP with same MAC address? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, Everyone,

    Host OS: 2012R2

    Guest OS: XP

I setup 2 XP, set same static MAC Address. IP is x.x.x.201, x.x.x.202

When connect to those XP by VNC, operation (ex. keyboard) will delay, or connection drop. (same problem with RDC)

    * if I set to different MAC Address, the VNC work fine. very smooth.

I need set same static MAC Address. Any idea? Thanks.

    Thanks for any information.

  • Solved.

This is for some software is locked by MAC Address.

NIC #1, setup the MAC Address which that software authenticate: ex. 1:2:3:4:5:6, IP set to 10.10.10.10 without subnet mask.

NIC #2, use effective MAC Address and IP for REAL network connection, ex. RDC, VNC...

There is no necessery for the NIC #1 has network connection ability. Done.

    Thanks for any information.

  • I'm assuming you're using Hyper-V since the host OS is 2012R2.

You can change the MAC address in the Hyper-V console under the settings for the VM.

    Settings-->Network Adapter-->Advanced

Change to static MAC and enter it.

Hyper-V will manage the dynamic MACs automatically.  Did you just make a copy of the VM?
