Error in Event log with Event ID 8214 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have seen below error in my event log daily when the Sharepoint site is accessed using IP address...

The description for Event ID 8214 from source Windows SharePoint Services 3 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

A request was made for a URL, http://x.x.x.x, which has not been configured in Alternate Access Mappings.  Some links may point to the Alternate Access URL for the default zone, http://servername.  Review the Alternate Access mappings for this Web application at http://servername:xx/_admin/AlternateUrlCollections.aspx and consider adding http://xx.xx.xx.xx as a Public Alternate Access URL if it will be used frequently.  Help on this error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=114854

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

I have already configured the friendly name in AAM.

As i was referring some forums about this error, they have mentioned to check the machine key which was set to "Auto Generated", but that was not in my case. Machine key in the config file was set to some key.

Can anyone please tell me why i am getting this error while accessing the site with IP address.

    Thanks,

    Shailu.

  • Hi Shailu,

My Event ID (8214) is similar with you, and the error (8214) will not appear when I add an Internal URLS in AAM with my IP address.
I select Alternate Access Mapping Collection as required site collection (http://serverName:portNumber ) and put the http://myIpAddress:portNumber with Zone Default.
    Save and iisreset.
You can check your AAM configuration and re-create it.

    My Event ID (8214):
The description for Event ID ( 8214 ) in Source ( Windows SharePoint Services 3 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.
The following information is part of the event:
A request was made for a URL, http://myIpAddress:4210, which has not been configured in Alternate Access Mappings.  Some links may point to the Alternate Access URL for the default zone, http://serverName:4210.  Review the Alternate Access mappings for this Web application at http://serverName:13868/_admin/AlternateUrlCollections.aspx and consider adding http://myIpAddress:4210 as a Public Alternate Access URL if it will be used frequently.  Help on this error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=114854.

    Thanks,
    Daniel
