Word 2013 won't start RRS feed

  • Question

  • Word 2013 won't start, often.  Seems to happen after switching between desktop and modern interfaces.  I just get the marching dots running across the blue splash screen.  Restarting Windows 8 always fixes the problem, but not permanently.  I am running Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus software.  Any suggestions?

  • Hi,

In the situation, I would suggest to start Word in safe mode and try disabling the video hardware acceleration to see if it can be helpful:

Blank UI or video driver crash

You might see blank UI or the UI disappears when hover in Office programs. Or your video driver might crash or hang.

Workaround    Try to update your video card driver and/or click File > Options > Advanced > Display, and then check the Disable Video Hardware acceleration box.

If you don’t see this box, you can set the regkey DisableHardwareAcceleration = 1 in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Graphics
