Types of backup should be taken RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have setup a production server having SQL server 2008 R2 and MOSS 2007 (front-web server, application server and DB on same machine). On this production server I have created a separate Site collection for a portal that needs to be hosted on this server. I am a developer and don’t have knowledge of Admin tasks. I would like to ask what all type of backups I should take so that I can restore or setup the environment in case of any failure.

As per my limited knowledge of Admin tasks I should first take the full farm backup and then incremental backup of portal site collections.

Could anyone please help me in this? Help will be highly appreciated.

  • Different people will have different suggestions for this, so rather than offering mine up front, I think it would be an advantage for you to get a better undertstanding of the Back-up and restore capabilities of MOSS.  With this information, you'll be able to better place and understand the suggestions that'll hopefully be posted here.

Please give this a read, its a Technet article on back-up and recovery: -
