Project managers can edit PWA site, add list and library RRS feed

  • Question

  • A project manager meant to edit his team site but he accidentally edited the PWA site, added lists and libraries.  I did more tests and found out that team members can edit PWA site as well.  Where did this permission lie?  I de-selected 'Manage lists in PWA' in global permissions.  But, this 2 groups can still edit PWA.

these settings can only help you prevent users to edit the PWA settings, such as edit list/webpart etc. etc.

the blog i reffered to you had the instructions to go with PS2010, even though its also the same for PS2007 but may be change in name confusing you, wasnt it of any help?

  • Hi canrmd2010, Project server create four level of permission for the PWA site, and these permission are different from your group permissions. You can find them if you click on Site Actions > Site Settings -> Under Users and Permission click on Site Permissions. There you will see the Project Server groups Project Managers and Team Members, you have to edit the permission level of these two groups to restrict the users to change any list/webpart settings of PWA page. Please follow the blog: http://khurramjamshed.blogspot.com/2010/12/project-server-20102007-permission.html, i had explain the exact security settings and how to modify it to prevent any such action from the users. the screen shots are also attached to help you go through. Let me know if it helps.

  • I changed the permission on Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server) - to only view pages and open under Site Permssions.  The Project manager can still create and delete library in PWA site.  I cleared the browser cache.  Permssion is still there.

The PM can see his projects in Project Center but he cannot open the plan.  It is Project server 2010.

He can open the plan in MSP client.

I came across this link -http://microsoftepmsolution.blogspot.com/2010/01/epm2007-preventing-users-from-modifying.html#comment-form  But, advanced permission is not listed under Users and Permssions on the PWA site. I'd think when it's a feature in Project 2007, it should probably be in Project 2010.
