Remote Desktop Services role fails install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got an install of 2012 Datacenter on a VM and am trying to install RDS on a single server.  I go through the wizard, RDCB and RDWA installs fine, but RDVH fails with: Unable to install RD Virtualization Host role service on server ...

In reading some walk throughs, I saw that "Create a new virtual switch on the selected servers" in the RDVH install needs to be checked and you also need 2 nics install.  I have done both but still get the install error.

  • Digging a little deeper, I tried adding RDVH by itself in Roles.  When I did, another screen came up and said I needed to install several other features.  One of them was Hyper-V.  When I clicked Add Features, it came back with: "Hyper-V Cannot be installed: A hypervisor is already running."

So I am assuming this cannot be run from a VMware VM?

    May have answered my question:

  • Hi There I am having the same problem too. you referred above to the Hypervisor already running as the host VM but what they are referring to is that the RDVH is a hypervisor on its own and uses a subset of hyperV but the two of them don't play nice together.
