Thumbs.db using Win10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings:

I've got two questions:  (1) How do I delete thumb.db that is contained in several folders that I'm trying to delete.  (2) Is there a way to stop generating thumb.db.  I know it's not needed in Win10.  Thanks.

  • Hi RonInVegas.

You can prevent Windows 10 from generating the thumbs.db files in a specific folder by opening the folder properties and choosing "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in the "View" tab of the properties Windows; you can also do it on a more general basis by opening the Local Group Policy Editor and enabling "Turns off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files." under User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> File Explorer.
The Thumbs.db files can be removed by running Windows Disk Cleanup as administrator and selecting the "Thumbnails" check box.

    Bye.
