Unable to add servers into protection group with Bare Metal Recovery Protection - DPM 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • When we are trying to add any server into protection group in DPM while the Bare Metal Recovery protection is selected it is throwing the below error in the end.

But without BMR (while disk protection and System state protection selected) server is getting added into the protection group.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Modify protection group: Plesk failed:
Error 32559: Replica volume configuration for BMR datasource failed. The replica volume for the BMR datasource System Protection cannot be shared over the network.
    Error details: Incorrect function
    Recommended action: Retry the operation

    Allocate Replica For C:\ failed:
Error 32559: Replica volume configuration for BMR datasource failed. The replica volume for the BMR datasource System Protection cannot be shared over the network.
    Error details: Incorrect function
    Recommended action: Retry the operation

  • Hi,

The error seems to be that we cannot create the share on the DPM server for Windows backup to access when bmr backups are configured.  We get the protected servers machine account SID from AD to add permissions to the share, so we're either having trouble getting the machine SID, or trouble making the share on the DPM Server.   Make sure the Server service is running on the DPM server.  See if NET SHARE returns a list of local shares. Make sure you can ping the DC and that it's accessible by the DPM server.
