Send emails from second account RRS feed

  • Question

  • A user have 2 exchange email accounts, one primary one secondary (not shared mailbox). It's outlook 2013 and exchange server 2016. When sending emails using second account, it always landed in Primary account's Sent folder. How to change it so it landed in secondary emails sent folder?

  • Hi Alan,

How was the secondary account added to Outlook?

If it is configured as a separate account via File > Add Account(see image below), by default the messages sent out are landed in its own Sent Items folder.

In case the issue occurs in this scenario, please check if any Inbox rules have been created by mistake and lead to this problem. You may also try to create a new Outlook profile and reconfigure the two accounts to see the result.

If the secondary account is added as an additional account via File > Account Settings > Account Settings > More Settings > Advanced > Add(see image below), then as mentioned in the link shared by Julien, this is an expected behavior. You can refer to the registry option provided in that article to work this around. Please remember to back up the registry for restoration before making any change.

Should there is any update or your would like further assistance on this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Thanks for the answer. The second account is not a shared mailbox. It is a regular mailbox. The second account is auto connected when it is granted full access & sendas right to the first account. Should I remove these full access & sendas rights and just use File>Add Account to make sent emails in correct Sent folder? If done this way, how does outlook pick which account to use when sending emails?

    Hi Alan,

Then this can be done with the registry method as well. You don't need to remove the full access & send as rights or adding the account via File > Add Account. All you need to do is adding the DelegateSentItemsStyle registry as suggested by Julien:

Important: Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Preferences
    DWORD: DelegateSentItemsStyle
    Data Value: 1

I have tested in my lab and it works perfect for an automapped account with full access and send as permission.
