Microsoft Exchange 2007 OWA Mail Count does not tally with Apple iPad/iPhone via ActiveSync RRS feed

    I have the following issues which affected most of our iPad/iPhone users.

    Mail Server: Exchange Server 2007 SP3,

    Client Machine : Windows Vista with MS Office 2007

    MobileDevice: Apple iPad/iPhone

    Synchronisation: via ActiveSync


    Scenario: Users access email via Outlook 2007 or via OWA.

    Mobile devices were setup to sync email with exchange server via ActiveSync


    Upon setting up the mobile devices, both unread email count for Outlook Inbox and the mobile device Inbox tally. 

    After some times, the unread email count between Outlook Inbox and mobile device Inbox would be different. 

    We had tested to access the email database via OWA and the unread email count from OWA and Outlook Inbox have the same reading but after synchronised with the mobile devices, the unread count was different (eg OWA read - 30, mobile device read - 35)

    We compared unread email count between OWA Inbox and mobile devices Inbox, discovered that some email read in OWA doesn't synchronised to the mobile device no matter how we update/refresh the device. New unread email was able to synchronised the mobile device. 

    We changed and tested on different mobile devices and the problem persisted.

    Another issue

    • Email recall message for successful recalled displayed in OWA Inbox but not on iPad Inbox.

    • Calendar invite message forward as email displayed in OWA Inbox but not in iPad Inbox.

    Kindly advise is there any settings that we need to take care in the Exchange server or Activesync? Is this a known problems for Exchange 2007 synchronised via ActiveSync to Apple iPad/iPhone?
