Backup tool for SharePoint Online

Question
-
Hi,
We are looking for a backup tool which should take backup of SharePoint Online on regular basis and also on-demand. We are in Europe region, hence wants to keep the backup in Azure like Azure VM or any other storage with in it.
The backup tool should be easy to use and files\site\folder should be restored on Demand
We have Finalized AvePoint, CommVault and Quest but not sure about its performance and backup feature with drawbacks for SharePoint Online and other Office 365 subscription.

Hi,
If you are planning for disaster recovery, there is no official backup tool for the entire SharePoint Online environment since it is actually managed by Microsoft.
If you are planning for partial content backup, for example, document libraries, one recommended way is to use OneDrive for Business to keep the documents in SharePoint Online synced.
Of course, there are always third-party solutions such as AvePoint. You will have to take responsibility since they are not supported by Microsoft.

Hi,
Depend on which license you have there are good restore options in Sharepoint online and you don't need external backup tool.
- The Restore Files option allows site owners and administrators to recover a document library to a specific point in time within the last 30 days (OneDrive for Business has a similar feature).
- Deleted documents and other items are held in the SharePoint recycle bin for up to 93 days. If you can’t restore a file because it’s outside the 30-day window, you can look in the site recycle bin and retrieve the file from there.
- If a site is under the control of an Office 365 retention policy, SharePoint keeps items removed by users or automatically by background jobs in a special hidden library called the Preservation Hold library. The items stay in the Preservation Hold library until their retention period expires, which could be several years. Administrators can retrieve files if needed from the Preservation Hold library.
Microsoft is taking backup as well.
Microsoft backs up the content in site collections every 12 hours (approximately). The backups are kept for 14 days. As an Office 365 tenant administrators you have no control over backups or restores. If a restore is necessary, it can only be started by contacting Office 365 support and you cannot restore a single item, document, list, or library. A full restore of a site collection is the only option.
With retention policies and other restore options you don't need external backup

In addition,
Although SharePoint gives administrators and users the ability to retrieve files deleted in error or corrupted in some way, two factors need to be considered when deciding if external backups are needed. First, some user education is needed to make people aware of how to use the Restore Files feature and how to recover deleted files from the recycle bin. Second, the methods of recovery listed above require manual intervention to restore content to sites.
What about protection against virus-attacks?
This might be possible with the functionality built into SharePoint Online (if you catch the problem early but recovering from a problem such as virus infestation or malicious deletion might be easier with a third-party
backup. As in the case of any ISV solution, you should test products thoroughly to ensure that they meet your needs, including aspects such as security, privacy, and data at rest.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
