FSRM used space and disk space through Explorer. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We're using FSRM with Win2k3 R2 and we've found some discrepencies in the space reported by Explorer and FSRM Console/Report.

We have a users home drive when we check through explorer its reporting a disk space of Size - 556MB and Size on disk of 631MB. However when we check in the FSRM Console/Quota Reports its showing  a disk space usage of 736MBs.

Is there any reason its showing a different disk size?

    Many thanks

  • Hi Momo,

To clearly check the issue you have seen, would you please take several screenshots for our reference?

    1. Windows Explorer reports the disk space

    2. FSRM report show the disk usage

    3. Where is the home drive mapped to?

Please generate storage report of the quota usage on the user home drive.

You may send the screenshots and quota report to us via tfwst@microsoft.com

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply. Merry Christmas

Actually I looked at a comparison between WIndows Explorer and FSRM Console the quota limit is 700MB.

    In Explorer its showing
    Size: 486MB (509,938,442bytes)
    Size on disk: 557MB (584,712,192bytes)
    contains: 1988files, 51 folders

    but in FSRM its showing
    Used: 658MB (94%), Peak usage: 738MB(105%), Peak Time:12/21/2009
    Available: 41.9MB

    Many thanks for your help.

  • Hi Momo,

Is there any SQL server database on the disk?

Can you please try rebooting the server to comparison the number again?

    Thanks.

  • David,

    Thanks for the reply.

We've applied the quota to several users personal folder on the file server. I have to do a scan to see if there's any dB files on the personal folder. Is there any reason your asking is the some issue with dB SQL files the user may have some Lotus notes nsf files though.

    Cheers.

  • Was this ever resolved I am seeming a similar issue with 2008 R2. The amount of used space reported through FSRM quotas, using a quota oin the root of the share does not match the used space shown through Windows explorer. Is this a bug in FSRM, it makes abig difference in that FSRM is off by about 10 GB on a 40 GB quota. I am assumin ghtat Windows explorer is correct, but it would be bad practice to have adjust every small quote upward by 10 GB just so it doesn't apply a false limit to a folder.
