Is is mandatory to use RBS (project server 2013 -on premise) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi ,

Can i know is it mandatory to use RBS when we start using PS 2013. I have read couple of places that it might confuse with category permissions. I want to know what i can achieve more if i use RBS or good to stay without using it.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

RBS is not required at all - this depends on your organisations requirements for the access model. The access model can be more dynamic when using the RBS based on the level the user is in the RBS. If your permission model / access model works without it, I wouldn't use it.

  • Thanks Paul,

Can you please mention any other challenges using RBS, just to prove why it is really not required. I hope by using RBS we dont get finer reports.

  • Hello,

There aren't any challenges using it... but before you look to use the RBS and set up the permission model to make use of RBS see if you need it first. If your permission model requirements work without making use of the RBS related security access such as "They are direct descendants of the User via RBS" or "The Project Owner or a Status Manager on assignments within that Project has the same RBS value as the User" then don't use the RBS. See this page for more details:
