Filtered tasks disappeared when moved RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi,

    Gantt chart with 2 sub-projects.

I filtered tasks on Text1 to only see all "software" tasks.

Then decided to move a block within one sub-project via cut and insert.

Now the filtered tasks are all gone!!!!

All filters are off. Outline level All sub-tasks selected.

    No help found online.

    Why did this happen?

How to recover the lost tasks?

    Regards,

    Hannes

  • HannesEnslin,

Your mistake was the cut and paste. First, never do that when a file is in a filtered or sorted state, and second, never do that when using a linked structure (i.e. master with inserted subprojects).

First of all you need to understand that in a dynamic master, the subprojects are not actually part of the master, rather, the master only contains pointers to each subproject.

Something else to know about dynamic masters, never rename, move, overwrite or "save off" to another location any of the files in the structure. Ideally, all files should reside in the same directory on a local drive and not be operated over a network.

With regard to your "lost tasks", are the tasks missing when you open the subproject where the tasks were resident? You need to fully expand the file and you might try sorting by the Unique ID field. If the tasks, do not show up, it is very likely they are gone. If you do see them, re-sort by ID and then carefully move the tasks to where they belong.

    Hope this helps.

    John
