Outlook 2016 - rules lost after add Exchange account and remove SMTP account RRS feed

Answers

  • Hi Steve,

tks for quick reply. After add the new Exchange account and set it as 'Default', the rules cannot be viewed. Yesterday I did the recovery of them using this steps

    - create a new profile (smtp account with ficiticous settings)

    - hide the new pst created for the profile

    - start SCANPST.EXE to the old PST to check consistency

    - put a copy of the old PST with the name of the new one

    - open the new profile

    - review all rules in a way that they were 'broken' related with the folder names and fix it

    - export all rules to a .rmz

    - close outlook with the new profile

    - start outlook with the new one Exchange account

    - import rules and review folders on its settings

    >>> done <<<

  • Hi,

Rules are stored in your data file, for Exchange account, in mailbox. It's the same case in Outlook 2013.

    >>rules lost after add Exchange account and remove SMT account

What type it is of the SMT account? The rules you create for an account are usually only for the specific account. Exchange account and POP account could use the same rules. Do you already have the PST file imported to your Outlook? Can you see rules from ribbon > Home tab > Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts? If you have imported the PST file correctly, you may still need to reset some rules to their new location before they will work.

If I've misunderstood something, please feel free to let me know.

    Regards,

    Steve Fan
