Hi Everyone,
I have upgraded a WSS v3 to Sharepoint Foundation 2010.
Installed search express 2010 and never got the search working as i always got internal server error when i try and add the
search core result webpart to the search center.
After i tried repairing the search express 2010 by using the wizard.
Now when i try and view sharepoint sites i get "the trial period for this product has expired. "
Any ideas ...

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention.

This is a false alarm. It is not time bombed and your farm will continue to work. If you click on the health analyzer warning you will see “
"Explanation : The licensing information not available". The MSSx sku does not have licencing module since its a free product. By default the rule "Trial period for this product is about to expire." is enabled in the health analyzer. The bug here is that we didn't disable this rule. The rule kicks in and its unable to find the licensing module and throws an exception (you can find it in the LOGS folder).

Workaround: In central admin go to "Central Admin" => Monitoring => "Review Rule Definitions" => click on "Trial period for this product is about to expire" rule under configuration and edit it. Uncheck the "Enabled" checkbox.

I'd assume you installed SP Foundation 2010 RTM? I looked earlier today and Search Server Express is still in Beta. It might be unhappy because you are mixing versions. Please correct me if I'm wrong about SSX -- I'd actually like to dl it for myself if RTM is out :-)

this is what i have installed:

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010

Microsoft® Search Server 2010 Express

I'm sure the SP Foundation was Beta and also the Microsoft® Search Server 2010 Express
But the Central Admin pages does work but not the sites collections and subsites :(
Is the full release SP 2010 going to be out today?

Patrick, SP 2010 Foundation is already available for download here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=49c79a8a-4612-4e7d-a0b4-3bb429b46595
You will have to migrate from WSSv3 to SPF again, since there is no support for migration from beta SPF 2010) to RTM

I've got a similar Trial Period Expired problem in Search Express 2010 RTM. If I click on Service Applications then Secure Store I get the error.

I have not installed SP Foundation. I came across this post today. Not the best thing to do, but if it's for demo purpose I suppose you can use this workaround.

"The solution was to add the service account of the application pool of the SharePoint web application to the local adminitrators group on your server.

So I did this, and after an iisreset, the page opened."

I'm also getting the same error as Patrick with SP Foundation 2010 & Search Server Express 2010 both of which are RTM & are now also both live systems (The error would appear the morning that we go live :( )

Anyone have ideas?

Please double check the Versions installed in your enviornment. Goto Central Admin -> Upgrade and Migration -> Check Product and Patch installation status.

Version 14.0.4536.1000 is Beta

Hi the version number for everything is 14.0.4763.1000

I downloaded SP Foundation & Search Server Express well after they came out of beta & commissioned a new virtual server to set up a new farm on, so there shouldn't be any upgrade issues.

dear all...

i think my problem is someone related but i don't have search, i have sharpeoint foundation and server but in sharepoint health analyzer, it says this is a trial product .. it's the RTM and i gave it a valid key from msdn from our subscription and if i go to the convert license for this product...

i see it's name is sharepoint server with enterprise client access license

so is it going to be expired ??? if yes it is production how can i active it??

Mai and penguin i think i read it somwhere in MSDN that you can't install Search Server Express 2010 if you already have a sharepoint product already installed.
I just installed Search Server Express 2010 and it did include SP 2010 foundation.

Hello

Same Problem in our installation, we installed the SPF 2010 with SSE 2010 on the same box, both with RTM Versions.

Now the Health Analyzer Reports "Trial period for this product is about to expire" it looks like that there is an issue when the SSE2010 is installed on the same box.

@ Microsoft: Please focus on this error, there are more people in the SP Forums with this problem... How can it be solved ?

Patrick.I i don't have Search Server Express 2010 installed ... but still see in it's trial product in health analyzer...

Someone from microsoft have to tell us something??? is it ok or is it going to be expired ??? and if ok so why is this mesg in sharepoint health analyzer..

Hi,

I have the same issue in Search Server Express 2010 RTM (installed without before installing SPF2010). Opened an incident in Microsoft and they reproduced the issue. It seems a bug, I'm waiting for them for a fix or something else.

I'll keep you updated.

Its a timer service. If you have disabled it it won't run. The results for the ones already executed, you can select them and delete.

I disabled the rule. However, when I clicked "Secure Store Service" in the Service Applications page, l still get the "The trial period for this product has expired" message and cannot continue. Tried iisreset and reboot, still the same error.

James, do you have Search Server 2010 installed? Is it Beta or RTM? Are you sure that you are not using any Beta version of SharePoint products?

Hi James, I have the same issue clicking on "Secure Store Service". My Search Server Express 2010 is RTM, 14.0.4763.1000.

Hope to have some useful information from MS next week.

James, did you install some language pack after Search Server Express? I installed Italian language pack and I've seen it's the same file download that you get for Sharepoint Server language pack. Can it be the issue? I'm reproducing a lab environment without any language pack...

I only have 1033 (English) Lang Pack installed. By the way, I just installed SharePoint 2010 Foundation and Search Server 2010 Express on a new Windows 2008 R2 server yesterday - same "expired" error for Secure Store Service.

The download isn't working. When I attempt to download foundations I get the save as box, and then it basically touches the filename on the disk and ends. The downloaded file is a zero length file.

Is anyone experiencing this issue, or is it transient?

for the Secure Store Service (SSS) error (trial expired) Microsoft released the hotfix in August CU.

When you install Microsoft Search Server Express, it uses and installs sections of Office Server in your registry. Even though you're running Sharepoint Foundation and not Sharepoint Server. Secure Store is also added. This trial exception should be rather easy to fix, Microsoft should just release an update for this.

We are seeing this on SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. Since I'm going to assume that SharePoint Enterprise has a licensing module, can we get confirmation as to what's going on?

SharePoint 2010 Enterprise

Service Pack 1

June 2011 CU

on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Farm installation - two App servers, eight WFE.

Installed using RTM bits, entered volume license key via config.xml

Getting the "Trial Period is about to expire" warning. Upgrade page shows "SharePoint Enterprise" and the product key textbox is disabled.

No Search Server Express installed. No other products installed.

I've just done a build similar to yours (2 app + 2 web, Enterprise SP1 and the Aug 2012 update) and have the same issue.

My ShaerePoint 2010 list would generate "The trial period for this product has expired" each time I tried to edit a particular item. List Ribbon / List Settings / Form Settings will give a choice of SharePoint Form or InfoPath. Found InfoPath set (must not be installed correctly); switched to SharePoint Standard. Upon refresh I see a single radio button with a caption to the right "<label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_FormSettingsOptionSection_ctl00_InfoPathEnableNewRadioButton">Customize the current form using Microsoft InfoPath" Since then I have been able to edit the list item; no more "expired" message.</label>

I have the same scenario, I have followed your step , i.e. unchecked the Box, but still i am getting same issue. we have restored the MSI files as Sharepoint was corrupted. Please suggest what to do in this case.
