primary dns not saved after restarting windows RRS feed

  • i install windows xp sp2 on my computer. after it i update windows manually (from sp2 to sp3) using update package "WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU" (latest downloaded from Microsoft website). i give ip address and primary and alternate dns to my LAN connection. but when i need to change dns, windows ask to reboot the computer to save changes after apply and OK. after rebooting i check dns, it shows old dns. in short i say new dns not saved after rebooting, it reset to old dns. please help me i reinstall my windows many times.

  • Dear Pankaz, 

    If I am right, you are connecting your PC to Internet through LAN. In Some cases DNS Setting is Controlled by Router itself (modem). In the router configuration DNS Servers might be fixed. So you are getting your DNS Records even after you changing in your System because your systems's DHCP controller must be enabled. If  my guess is correct, Just disable DNS Servers from Router Configuration (doing Wrong Configuration setting may disconnect your Internet). 

    If other case, please explain.
