Is it possible to install Windows 7 RTM for 64 bits over the Windows 7 RC for 32 bits? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an AMD 64 (Turin) based HP laptop currently installed with 32 bit version of Windows 7 RC. I tried to install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 RTM but it says I have a wrong version of OS. Any idea how to get around this problem?

    Thanks much.

  • You cannot install over any version of the RC. You also cannot install 64bit over 32bit. You MUST do a clean install.

  • Another angle:  If you have disk space & Vista version that allows right click "Shrink" the volume, it can be done in "Disk Management". This make (C:W7 32) for instance into C & (D where you could install W 7 64) in OS multi boot.
