Is it possible to install Windows 7 RTM for 64 bits over the Windows 7 RC for 32 bits? RRS feed

    I have an AMD 64 (Turin) based HP laptop currently installed with 32 bit version of Windows 7 RC. I tried to install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 RTM but it says I have a wrong version of OS. Any idea how to get around this problem?

    You cannot install over any version of the RC. You also cannot install 64bit over 32bit. You MUST do a clean install.

    You must do a clean install from the install DVD.

    Another angle:  If you have disk space & Vista version that allows right click "Shrink" the volume, it can be done in "Disk Management". This make (C:W7 32) for instance into C & (D where you could install W 7 64) in OS multi boot.
