Media Center in Vista RC2 - No Services Found in Online Media RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've upgraded my RC1 to RC2, but now when trying to view Online Media -> Programs by name -> Program Guide, it states that the server is not responding.

Under the other headings (tv+movies, music+radio, etc..) it simply states No Services Found.

Under RC1, it stated that I needed XP to access some of the online providers, but otherwise seemed to work fine given the compatibilit issue.

I've tried disabling the firewall and ensured that I set up the internet connection in Media Center (wich reported a connection), but nothing seems to fix it.

I can listen to / watch my own media off my hard drive fine.

I don't have a TV tuner, and only want to use the Online Media option at this point.  As per RC1, the tuner card wasn't required for Online Media access.

    Any suggestions anyone?

  • Also noted that now the Windows Live Desktop reports Service Unavailable as well.

I'm suspecting that it's related to the RC1 -> RC2 upgrade, and am going to try a reformat and reinstall.

    Yehawww, love these betas.

  • Not it is not your install of Vista, Microsoft took it off about three weeks ago during a MCE update.  I was told by a person working with the MCE MVP program that this service was taking off-line temporally while it was reworked...but again that was like a month ago.

I wish someone from MS would chime in here and say if it will be back....I thought it was a great, valuable, and entertaining service which offered a wide variety of information.

  • Thanks for that info, I wasn't aware of that.  It's probably been a month or so since I had tried the Media Center with RC1...

You were right too, the re-install only fixed my Live Desktop, but no affect on Media Center.

I hope they do get it going, I was all ready with my credit card to start some subscriptions!

  • Try this:

    download ehome.zip from this site
on your computer, go to your c: drive
    open up ProgramData folder
    open Microsoft folder
    delete the ehome folder

now unzip the ehome folder you downloaded
place the new ehome folder where you deleted the old one.
