DHCP split scope consolidation in 2008R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have two domain controllers DC1,DC2 with OS 2008R2.Both are using DHCP with multiple range of scope in split scope mode.Which containing both voice and data range of IPs.

I would like to consolidate and make it only in DC2.Please let me know the proper solution with steps and command with no or minimal downtime .It should consolidate reservations also.

    Thanks in advance

the export command is not working in my DCs .I have run it is power shell elevated command in windows/system32/

    • Export-DhcpServer -ComputerName DC01 -Leases -File C:\export\dhcpDC01.xml -Verbose

May be it will work only in Server2012?

    Hi Mukesh_4Microsoft,

You may refer to this paragraph "Export DHCP settings and leases from DHCP2008-1 and DHCP2008-2" in that TechNet article.

Note: We cannot import DHCP leases for the same scope from two different DHCP servers without first consolidating the exported files into a single file. We can also configure DHCP with split-scope to issue 100% of the leases for a split-scope and allow leases on another DHCP server to expire before performing the next procedure.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Hi Anne,

    Thank you for your reply.

1.We cannot import DHCP leases for the same scope from two different DHCP servers without first consolidating the exported files into a single file:-This is fine for me but i have reservation on both servers .So it will include with export leases?

2.We can also configure DHCP with split-scope to issue 100% of the leases for a split-scope and allow leases on another DHCP server to expire before performing the next procedure-I know this is the best but i have reservations in both servers, how i can manage it?

    Best Regards,

    Mukesh

  • Hi Mukesh_4Microsoft,

DHCP reservations are included in "export", you may check the export files if it includes reservation information.

    Best Regards,

    Anne
