MDT doesn't install Vista drivers after moving from WAIK to ADT

  • I am using MDT to image Vista and Windows 7 computers. Everything was going fine until yesterday when I uninstalled WAIK and installed ADT. I updated the deployment share and booted the computer using the new WIM. None of the drivers will install now when I choose a Vista task sequence. If I boot with the WIM I was using before upgrading to ADK, the drivers install fine. Either WIM will install Windows 7 without any problem.

The setuperr.log file says (for each of the drivers):

Pkgmgr: Install Drivers Callback: ERROR: Failed to stage driver c:\drivers... error code 0x80070032
Pkgmgr: Install Drivers Callback: ERROR: Failed to install driver package c:\drivers... error code 0x80070032

I changed the WinPE scratch space size to 512.

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Appears to be a specific issue with Vista per:

Can you try injecting the first two steps in the workaround as a script prior to the driver step in the Task Sequence?

  • Thank you David,

I added a task to create c:\temp and added the following lines to the main function in LTIApply.wsf:
            dim oSysEnv

            Set oSysEnv = oShell.Environment("PROCESS")
            oSysEnv("USERPROFILE") = "c:\temp"

The directory gets created and the environment variable gets set but the drivers still fail to install.
