Developer Site for Team RRS feed

  • Question

  • #SP2013 Dev.  Looking for suggestions around creating Developer Sites.  Is it advisable to create individual Developer Site Collection for each of the team members? or share same site collection with the team?  How could it impact on development and debugging.  The team size could go more than 30.  I am not sure if I can create developer subsite under another Developer Site (as such I could not find an option of it too).  Thanks in advance!

  • what to you mean by Developer site: site for using it by developers for testing and debugging, storage for personal information of team members or site for collaboration between team? In first case it is better to create sites as separate site collections, because they have better isolation from each other comparing with sub sites, so there will be less probability that something will be broken accidentally. In second case standard My Sites will suite your needs I think. And in third case you may create OTB Team sites also as separate site collections: it will have better security, because by default members of one workspace won't have access to another one (with sub sites it is also possible but will require more additional work: you will need to not forget to break role inheritance on sub sites each time when it is created).

  • Hi,

As sadomovalex said, I think it is better to have  separate site collection for each team member if you require a site for development and debugging for each team member and team members can keep updating there development environment by frequent consolidated code deployment.
