How to configure and activate a KMS host in a disconnected environment? RRS feed

  • Question

  • From the information security perspective, we have a small team ~50 resources working in a disconnected environment. The KMS host has no Internet connectivity. Is there any best practice to deploy KMS in such environment?

I tried to activate the KMS host on Windows Server 2008 Ent R2 by telephone, but when I was trying to add Windows 7 Pro KMS Key, it failed. So I guess the KMS host needs to connect to MS to verify the new keys.

The products I need to manage:

    Windows Server 2008

    Windows 7 Pro

    Office Professional Plus 2010

    Thank you very much!

  • Hi,

    you can't install a Win7 KMShost pkey, onto a WS2008R2 host.
And, there is no need to do so, since the WS2008R2 KMShost pkey will issue activations for Win7 anyway.

On your WS2008R2 KMShost, install the KMShost pkey for WS2008R2 (it can be any A, B, or C channel/group key for WS2008R2).
Now use telephone activation for that host/key.
