Background: Vista SP1 has a no-boot window (a window of time in which if power goes out during SP1 installation, the machine will never boot up). Currently, this window is around 8 minutes long. Windows XP SP2 also had a no boot time window, but it was much shorter.
This appaers to be a problem with Vista SP1 drivers that have dependencies on Vista SP1 code that will prevent a Vista box from booting if that driver is installed on a machine with Vista RTM bits only.
At present, there is no workaround but should be fixed before SP1 is released.
If your driver is a 3rd party driver and there is a dependency and the driver cannot be componentized for some reason, then please post here ASAP. MS needs to know, otherwise the driver may have to be removed from Vista SP1.
