Can't extend CSV

    Question

  • CSV was running out of space. I presented small lun so I can extend it. Then on one of the Hyper-V hosts, I used diskpart to extend it. I used both extend and extend filesystem comands. In disk management at the top part I see it as 600GB in bottom part I can see it as 625GB.

    When I am running extend filesystem I receive the following message:

    DISKPART> extend filesystem

    DiskPart has encountered an error: Incorrect function.
    See the System Event Log for more information.

    DiskPart successfully extended the file system on the volume.

    DISKPART>

    detail vol gives this:

    DISKPART> detail vol

      Disk ###  Status         Size     Free     Dyn  Gpt
      --------  -------------  -------  -------  ---  ---
    * Disk 3    Reserved        625 GB      0 B

    DISKPART>

    There is no entry in System Event Log. Any idea how to fix it so it shows as 625GB everywhere?

  • I used 3rd party tool - MiniTool Partition Magic. It did the trick in less, than a minute. And yes, it is showing as 625GB now everywhere.

  • It will never show 625 GB everywhere.  When you initialize and format the drive, some space is required for the metadata on the volume.  That is what is presented as the size of the available space.
