Saved file in Excel always saves to "network shortcuts" location

Question
-
I have a problem that I am having an issue resolving. Each time a user is trying to save a file to their home folder with Excel, it wants to save to “Network Shortcuts” folder. As an example, if you click Save As to save a file and select a folder, it appears within Network Shortcuts. I have checked the following: Offline sync is enabled, the save settings are at default for Excel, and the user has exclusive rights to their home folder. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok I found a solution. Check the following article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781907(v=ws.10).aspx
There's a community addon:
NTFS permissions for root folder of redirected desktop location is NOT sufficient for Office 2013We set up Windows 7 redirected desktops for our users using the root folder NTFS permissions for "Security group of users who need to put data on the shared network server" as listed in this article (List Folder/Read Data, Create Folders/Append Data). Worked fine for most actions, but when doing a Save As of Word 2013 or Excel 2013 files, and selecting Desktop under Recent Folders, the Save As dialog would take the user to the local C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts folder for some odd reason. (Interestingly, just hovering over Desktop under Recent Folders popped up a small window the correct network UNC path name for the redirected Desktop location.)
After getting zero help from Microsoft support for this, I experimented with permissions in the root folder for Desktop redirection, and found that in addition to List Folder/Read Data and Create Folders/Append Data, I had to grant the user group Read Attributes, Create File/Write Data and Write Attributes permissions.
This fixed the Save As issue in Office 2013.
Everything is working now after modyfing the permissions of the root folder!

Hallo jedimastermaz (and anyone else who will read this post)!
I have the exakt same problem, i.e.:
- You press "save as" in Excel 2013
- You then click on one of the shortcuts of a recently used folders in the list of recently used folders that is automatically populated by Excel.
- You then always get to the below folder instead of what the shortcut says it will take you to:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts
Did you (or anyone else) ever resolve this problem and if so, what did you do to resolve it?
(Edit: I am running Windows 8.1, Office 2013 and I have already tried what JohnB352 suggested and it did not work)- Edited by Thomas N_ Tuesday, December 30, 2014 11:16 AM More Info

Hi,
Do you mean that Windows displays “Network Shortcuts” folder when you click “Browse” icon? If so, please check if you configure the default local file location to the “Network Shortcuts” folder. You could refer to the image below to find the option of the default local file location.Best Regards,

Hello Mandy,
Thanks for your response. It is constantly defaulting to Network Shortcuts even though the default is to the home folder. I can't seem to get it to change no matter what I try.

I know it's crazy... did you check the Properties of: Libraries>Documents, to make sure the Network Shortcuts path isn't in there?Wednesday, November 26, 2014 8:44 PM

I'm having this issue with Word. However my users have full access to the root of their redirected folder, so this fix is not an option. There must be something else causing this. Anyone find another solution? Thanks for any suggestions...Tuesday, August 4, 2015 8:12 PM

I had the same issue where the Office apps kept defaulting to a Microsoft Roaming Network Shortcuts folder rather than the default folder I specified in the Office | Options | Save setting.
From other posts I saw, it looked like it was a privileges issue. Having recently upgraded my PC from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I decided to go to c:\users\[userid] and right click Documents and select Properties. I clicked on the Security tab, highlighted my userid and unchecked / checked a permission so that the Apply button would be active. I clicked Apply and Windows set the privs on all the folders and files in the Documents directory.
Now, when I go to save my documents, the Office apps go to the folder I specify in Options.
Hope this helps!Tuesday, November 10, 2015 3:34 AM
