Adding or adjusting project custom field information in the browser cannot be saved RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a situation in Project Server 2013 (after upgrading from the 2007 version) where I can no longer adjust or add any custom field informatoin in the browser for a project. Initialy while creating a project all goes well, maintaining the project and adjusting or adding CF information fails with the following error message:

An error has occurred when saving your project to the server. Please contact your administrator for assistance

It looks like making changes to CF information is still possible through MS Project Pro. I'm hoping someone has a solution for the browser situation.

    Rgds, Frank

  • Frank:

You must open every project in Project Professional then save and publish before you start using the projects again. Based on the error messages I would recommend that you delete the cache on your local machine.

    %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\15

Delete all folders below this one before you do anything else. Then try opening, saving and publishing. Let us know if that helps.

  • - Can you check if it works with a different browser (2013 supports all major browsers), or from a different computer?

    - If it still doesn't, you should look at the error details in the ULS

  • Hi Frank --

Have you checked for an error message in the Project Server queue? It's more easily accessible as a first step (via PWA 'Server Settings') than the ULS logs, since you do not need direct access to the server(s).

    Good luck!

  • Hi,

I tried the same actions with the PWA site in compatibility view mode but this doesn't change the behaviour and I still receive the error message. Looking in the queue shows me the following error message:

  • Hi Hester,

Perhaps Gary's answer (see below) will help you. In our specific case we had quite a few challenges after the upgrade from 2007 to 2013 we did for our customer. This was just one of the issues we encountered, the overall upgrade process was far from succesfull and in the end we decided to follow a different path where a fresh clean PS2013 install was at the basis.

Hope you'll be able to tackle the issue.

    Rgds, Frank

  • Frank:

Good thinking. If you're going from 2007 to 2013, there is bound to be as much or more garbage data in the system as there is good data. Every upgrade is an opportunity to do some housekeeping.
