Network adapter- Microsoft virtual miniport adapter RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • My network adapter Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 agn haven't work in over 3 years. Today my computer automatically install a new hardware which is the network adapter (intel R wifi) and now my wifi adapter works perfectly. I check device manager and notice somthing new call Microsoft virtual Wifi miniport adapter under Network adapter. In the 3 year period my intel wifi adapter has start working around 7-8 times but only for several minutes and went out but never has the Microsoft virtual Wifi miniport adapter showed up. My question is, is this new software or program safe? (Microsoft virtual Wifi miniport adapter) if it is then go microsoft! What trip me out is how this happen, I always thought it was a hardware problem.

We have no way of knowing if it is "safe" but generally drivers are.  Best bet is to check it with your Malware application.  BTW the network adapter is software not hardware.

  • Hi,

If you don’t want to use it, please open Device Manager, under Network Adapters right click on the Microsoft Vitural WiFi Miniport Adapter, and choose Disable.
