Restore crashed MS SQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

one of our SQL servers crashed.
    W2K8R2, MS SQL 2005 SP3.

    Our DPM there is 2007 (v 2.0.88.61.0)

We have got backups of the databases.
Now colleagues have installed an new server with MS SQL and the same name.
So what is the recommended way to restore?

    Following was planned:

    1. install DPM agent on new server (with same name)
    2. leave protection groups as they are
    3. try to restore system databases to same server (master, msdb, model)
    4. try to restore all other dbs
    5. if 3 and 4 do not work (because DPM does not accept the new server to be the same as the old one) try to restore dbs to a different server and choose the new server from the list

I am really thankful fpr all hints...

    regards

  • Hi,

    we did as described.

Problem we had was that DB Team installed SQL 2005 with SP4 so that we could not restore MSDB.
After freshly reinstalling SQL 2005 with SP3 all system databases could be restored:
One more thing was that we had a special local user for the SQL server agent and maintenance plans.
Because of the new SIDs we had to readd the groups to the maintenance plans within MS SQL Server.

After that DPM did a consitency check for for the replicas.
