MP 500 Errors after upgrade to 2012 R2 SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I just upgraded our primary site to 2012 R2 SP1.
We came from 2012 SP1; I first went to SP2 and then performed the R2 SP1 installer.

Immediately after the upgrade, I noticed the MP 500 internal server errors.
After some searching, I found the following article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2013/09/04/support-tip-configmgr-2012-management-point-fails-with-a-500-error-after-working-fine-for-a-short-period-of-time.aspx

As unlikely as it sounded, I tried this solution as our SMS Agent Host on the primary site server was set to automatic.
I set it to manual and retried the MPLIST url against the MP and it responded correctly.

It seemed that the problem was solved, but after a while the MP gave again error 500 messages.
I noticed that the SMS Agent host was stopped.

In the CCMEXEC log I shut saw that it was properly shutdown, however I cannot pinpoint why this happens.
The agent on the Primary Site server is upgraded to the latest version (8239).

Has anyone also seen this behavior when they upgraded?

Does anybody have an idea what causes the sms agent host to stop?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Filip

  • The easiest way would be (because of limited troubleshooting possibilities here in the forums): remove the MP, remove the client, reboot, re-add the MP, install the client.

  • What we found....Just because the dialog box says "you may close" it does not mean it is done upgrading.

It could be several hours after that message once it is completed.  Have you checked the appropriate logs to see if the MP(S) were upgraded?
