First, "template" in Word jargon probably has a different meaning from the way you are using the Word. See
Templates in Microsoft Word. This means any web search you perform is going to give you no help.
You may want to create a template that has a three-column table. Instead of hitting Enter, hit Tab. This will move to the next column except when you are in the last row, when it will create a new row and move you to the first column in that row.
