Is there a way of dealing with users leaving inactive sessions? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a problem at the moment with users not logging off shared laptops, with then results in sometimes 2-3 people all logged on to the same laptop at once causing performance issues, we are trying to find a reliable solution to this, such as logging off inactive users say after 30 minutes without affecting the user that is currently logged on and active.

Does anyone know of a potential solution?

  • Hi,

Do you mean to make the disconnected users to log off the shared laptops?

If this is the point, then we may set the time limit for disconnected users using the following group policy:

    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits.

    More information, please see:

    Session Time Limits

  • Thanks for the reply, but these are locally logged on users on the shared laptops, not remote desktop users.

  • Hi,

Apologize to say that there seems to be no built-in to do that.

Besides, you may take a check with the following thread ans see if it could help:

User automatically logging off after a standard period of inactivity

    Best regards
