Suspend and flush Exchange memory to disk for warm backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to perform warm backup for my Exchange server using the snapshot function provided by my storage array. Does anyone know the detailed configuration steps of suspend service and flush memory to disks?

  • Since Exchange is highly stateful, taking backups via snapshot technologies is not supported.  The only supported way to back up Exchange is to use an Exchange aware backup utility: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876874.aspx

  • You can take snapshot if the vendor supports integration with Exchange and is supported using VSS.  This is dependent on the product you;re using.  I'd ask the vendor if they support Exchange snapshots and if they adhere to the requirements of Exchange.
