Child DNS domain resolution to Parent DNS domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • This may be a stupid question but here goes...

If I create a delegate zone on a master DNS server this allows resolution from master to the child. So master.contoso.com will be able to resolve child.master.consoto.com.

The master and child are in different domains so the child points to itself for DNS.

Once this is set up I need to set up a stub zone or conditional forwarder for the child zone to resolve to the master. Is that correct?

  • I am not really getting your description. What I usually do is that, with a forest, I usually make all DNS zones AD-Integrated and replicated to all  the DC. Otherwise, you can proceed with conditional forwarders for cross-domain resolution.

  • Hi Guinchie,

According your description, there is a easier way to implement.

    1. On  DNS servers in root (master.contoso.com),define a conditional forwarder to child.master.contoso.com
    2. On child.master.contoso.com,set Forwarder as root domain DNS(master.contoso.com).
