DPM2012 with MSA2312fc array, backing up Hyper-V CSV, not releasing snapshots RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using DPM2012 to back up Hyper-V VMs running on a pair of clustered Server 2008 R2 servers with an attached CSV from an HP MSA2312fc array. Hardware snapshot license is installed on the MSA2312.

DPM creates new snapshots on the array when recovery points are created, and most of the time it then releases them. However, I have two snapshots that are eating up quite a bit of disk space and have been hanging around for over 2 weeks now.

I can delete them manually, but how can I tell if they're in use? Could DPM still be using them? Is there any way to tell? All three servers (DPM and the two Hyper-V cluster servers) have been rebooted in the interim.

Or am I wrong about which server is creating the snapshots? Are they being triggered by the host Hyper-V server or DPM?

I'm afraid I just don't understand hardware snapshots as well as I wish I did...
