Vista does not shutdwn or restart if it had gone to sleep mode before RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Vista Enterprise SP1 on a Compaq 6910p laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2GHz, 2 GB RAM). If I shutdown or restart the laptop directly, there is no issue. However, if the laptop had gone into sleep mode (at least once since the previous shutdown/restart), the next shutdown/restart doesn't complete. It just hangs during the process. I have to manually press the laptop power button for a few seconds to power it down. The next boot shows that the shutdown was not clean. I found another post made in 2007 having the same issue (http://www.vistax64.com/vista-installation-setup/43427-shut-down-after-sleep.html), but couldn't find any solution to the problem.

  • We have several similar laptops in my company with the same problem. The problem was not originally this bad.
